Aitutaki - Tahitian Blue Lorikeet / Vini peruviana

Lorikeets are the smallest species of the brilliantly coloured
parrots native to the East Indies, Australia and many islands in the Pacific.
Lorikeets normally pair up for life and they are almost always seen in
pairs or in flocks, which can contain up to a thousand birds at a time.

The small multicoloured bird, once common on all islands in it's range,
was found in Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea and throughout the Society Islands
at the end of the last century. In the 1890's it was the only land bird found
in Aitutaki and was a common pet. Today it is regarded as seriously
endangered and only found in small, isolated atolls.
